What is 101?

101 is the competitive variant of okey. It uses the same 106 tiles and 4 players, but the rules are deeper and the stakes are higher. Where classic okey is about finishing a single round quickly, 101 is a multi-round strategy game where every decision affects your final score.

Each player starts with 21 tiles instead of 14. To play tiles onto the table, a player must first open their hand. Opening requires laying down valid groups (pers) that total at least 101 points, or presenting at least 5 pairs (doubles). If another player has already opened, you must beat their opening score to open yourself.

After opening, players can commit tiles from their rack to existing groups on the table, whether their own or another player's. The goal is to empty your rack entirely. The game also features okey retrieval: if a group on the table contains an okey tile and you have the real tile it represents, you can swap them and take the okey for yourself.

101 has a detailed penalty system. Mistakes like wrong openings, discarding okey or failing to commit cost penalty points. There are also rewards for strong openings, direct finishes and finishing with doubles or okey tiles.

The game is played over 11 rounds. Penalty points add up, reward points subtract. At the end, the player with the lowest score wins.
